I always find these sorts of bios most difficult to write, I mean, where am I supposed to start? Well, for starters, becoming a Baldwin Scholar has already become one of my fondest experiences here at Duke: the people I have met, the events that I’ve been to, and the growth I anticipate is simply unparalleled, and I couldn’t be more grateful. Now, about me! I was born in New Mexico, and then lived the fair majority of the first half my life in Blacksburg, Virginia. When I was about 11, my family and I moved to Kuwait, my home country, and I’ve lived there all through middle and high school. I still live there, but I came to Duke Fall Freshmen year and found another home.
Being at Duke is such a growing experience, and my thoughts, motives, and beliefs are challenged every single day. This is one of my favorite things about Duke, you create your own story by the decisions you make, and the people you choose to interact with. You can choose to branch out and really strive to gain the most enriching experiences, and the four years you have at Duke become invaluable. Coming here was one of the best decisions I have ever made, and I am so grateful!
That sounded like a great pitch for Duke, but if you want to know more about me, feel free to contact me! I love meeting new people, it is literally my favorite thing in the world, so email me; I’d love to hear from you! My email is reem.alfahad@duke.edu.
