Hi! My name is Maya, and I am incredibly honored to be part of the Baldwin community.
I was born and raised in New York City, specifically in Harlem, where I live with my parents and younger brother. At Duke, I am pursuing a degree in History with a minor in English and certificate in Human Rights. My academic interests lie at the intersection of race, law, and social movements, particularly how historical narratives inform contemporary conversations about justice, memory, and power. After completing my undergraduate degree, I plan to attend law school.
Outside of academics, I am a member of the Duke Women’s Club Soccer team, serve as an orientation leader for Project BUILD, and on the Duke Human Rights Student Advisory Board. Additionally, I am a member of the Bass Connections project: Mental Health and The Justice System in Durham County.
In my free time you can find me trying new restaurants around Durham, watching women’s basketball, playing soccer with friends, or reading in the gardens.
