Hey Everybody! My name is Lauren Relaford, and I am so delighted to be a Baldwin Scholar. I have been surrounded by powerful women and through the Baldwin family I hope to continue that. The saying, “it takes a village” has always guided me and rung true. I am originally from Richmond, Virginia.
At Duke I am involved in United in Praise Gospel Choir, Duke Chorale, the Black Women’s Union, student government, and participate in the Black Student Alliance and the Black Pre-Law Society. I am also a Reginaldo Howard merit scholar. In my time at Duke, I have studied abroad in Spain, Scotland, and Washington, DC. Being involved in activities that affect various aspects of my life has allowed my identity to blossom.
In the future, I hope to work within education, policy, law, or politics (or a mix of them all). I am currently pursuing a major in public policy and a minor in education! Again, I am so thankful to be accepted into this family and can’t wait for what the future holds.
