Hi! My name is Emily Lutzker, and I’m beyond excited to be a part of the 2029 Baldwin cohort!
I’m from Brookline, Massachusetts, where I live with my parents, younger brother, and two dogs. I love spending time with my family, whether that is going on long walks with my mom or cooking new dishes with my dad.
Attending an all-girls school from the age of 11, I have spent most of my time in an academic environment centered on women. At Duke, however, I’m diving into a male-dominated field as a physics major. I’ve always been very curious, and that curiosity has led me to take an interest in astrophysics and cosmology, studying the beginning and eventual end of the Universe. I hope to one day become a physics teacher and share my passion with other young women, just as my teachers inspired me.
Outside of the classroom, you can typically find me doing something creative, from learning a new song on the guitar to honing my cake decorating skills. I’m on the DUU Campus Concerts committee, which is how I stay connected to my love of live music. I also love puzzles, so if I’m not solving a New York Times crossword, I’m probably busy writing one for the Chronicle as a member of the crossword team.
I feel so honored to be a part of this community of supportive, driven young women, and I’m excited for the years ahead!
