My name is Liz Kennedy, and I could not be more excited to join the Baldwin family!
As a prospective student first learning about the Baldwin Scholars program, I was immediately impressed by the strong, compassionate, and well-rounded women who brought the program to life. They were leaders on campus, women who weren't afraid to speak up and create positive change. They wanted to ensure that women's voices were not only being heard, but listened to. Those women have become my role models, mentors, collaborators, and friends. I am constantly inspired by all of the talent and passion that they possess. The Baldwin Scholars program has enabled me to challenge myself and grow in more ways than I could have imagined.
Now that I have the humbling privilage to be counted among these phenomenal women, I strive to continue their work, both on Duke's campus and beyond.
Here at Duke, I am involved with MASTERY tutoring, the FOCUS program, Best Buddies, and the Black Student Alliance. I am passionate about social justice, lacrosse, food, the arts, Duke Basketball, food, the environment, reading, and did I mention good food? I plan to pursue a major in Public Policy with a minor in Women's Studies. When I grow up, I want to work with gender policy so I can ensure that the needs and concerns of women are being taken seriously. This summer, I'll be interning in rural Appalachia with the PAGE program (Partnership for Appalachian Girls Education), working with young middle school girls and empowering them through education.
As the 10th class to matriculate through the program, I am awed and inspired by the legacy created by the Scholar's before me. I hope to continue the amazing work they're doing in the world, and to use the tools, resources, and support given to me by Baldwin to really create positive change in the world.
B-love,
Liz Kennedy
