Hello, my name is Cheyenne!

I was born in Singapore, and that’s where I’ve lived my entire life before coming to Duke. Deciding to move halfway across the world was a bold choice for my younger (but thankfully no less wise) self, and every day I’m grateful I made it. Since arriving at Duke, I’ve experienced so many “firsts” – my first 27-hour flight; my first time driving on the right-hand side of the road; and my first time being surrounded by a close-knit community of women as strong, driven, and ambitious as the Baldwins.

Biology has always held a special place in my heart. At a research lab back home, I explored off-target mutations and editing efficiencies of genome-engineering techniques like CRISPR-Cas and Prime Editing. That experience opened my eyes to the incredible ways theoretical biology can translate into real-world applications to solve therapeutic challenges. At Duke, I can’t wait to take this passion further by combining it with engineering to bring biology to life through biomedical engineering. Just imagining the possibilities this could open up in healthcare innovation fills me with so much excitement!

While biology is my first love, there are a few close contenders. I relish the pure satisfaction of breaking wooden boards in Taekwondo and can’t get enough of the adrenaline rush from roller coaster rides. (In fact, I’m on a mission to ride all the Top 20 roller coasters in the world before I graduate – wish me luck!)

Life at Duke, like a roller coaster, will undoubtedly have its highs and lows. But with the Baldwin community by my side, I know I’ll be inspired, supported, and challenged to grow. Together, we’ll navigate college and beyond, taking on challenges and becoming the best versions of ourselves. I’m truly honored to be a part of this empowering community.
