Hi there! My name is Carine, but I also respond to “Colette,” as she is my identical-looking twin who is also at Duke. Key difference though—I wear pearls and am less fond of sweet potato fries...
I grew up in Scarsdale, NY, a suburb right outside NYC. After graduating high school, my parents relocated to Greenwich, CT, so I now feel obliged to qualify my geographical origins by sayings I’m from “New York slash Connecticut.”
My time at Duke thus far has been incredible, as I’ve been able to get involved in so many different things. Of course, at the top of that list of things is the Baldwin Scholars program, which has introduced me to all these awesome female leaders on campus who continue to inspire me to grow into a stronger version of myself.
Aside from being a part of the Baldwin community, I’m a Student Coordinator for the Duke Catholic Center and the Chair of Advocacy for Autism Speaks U at Duke. My freshman year, I was also involved with The Compass Fellowship, which has allowed me to explore my passions in social entrepreneurship, directing me towards the 2015 Hult Prize Regional Finals in Boston, a competition hosted by the Clinton Global Initiative that seeks a $1M solution to a pressing global, social issue.
Eventually, I hope to find myself exploring the field of human-computer interaction—in particular, applying my studies in Computer Science to my passion for education.
On the less academic side, I am passionate about tennis, DIY crafts, cupcake decorating, and exploring local foodie spots.
