"When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you will be successful."

Hey, Hey! My name is Ba'Carri Johnson, and I am from the lovely city of Miami, Florida where it is summer year around and everyday is a Beach day! Just in case you are wondering, no I did not spend all my free time relaxing on the beach, though it would be nice. Ask anyone from Miami and you will get the same shocking response, we actually go to the beach maybe 3-4 times a year. I am also half Bahamian, so you can basically say I had the best of both worlds.

First off, I must say its GREAT to be a BLUE DEVIL! But, it is even greater being apart of the class of 2015 Baldwin Scholars. Ask me a year ago where I thought I would be today and you would have received a totally different answer than where I am presently. Unlike most of my friends here, my dream school as a little child was not Duke. *waits for all the gasps* Up until the second half of my senior year of high school, I always knew I would be a Florida Gator just like my older brother and sister. I heard about Duke and realized it embodied everything I loved about UF plus more. From the moment I was accepted, I fell in love with Duke....And the rest was history!

Growing up as a city girl, moving to Durham became a new experience for me. I was actually glad to live a slower lifestyle in comparison to Miami's fast city life. Though there was a lot to get use to this school year, my Baldwin family made the transition smooth and lovely. I spent my high school years involved in everything! Cheerleading, Student Government, community service, and I even started a program known as Project FAME (Future Achievers in Mathematical Excellence) that I hope to expand upon graduating from Duke. Just as involved as I was in high school, I hope to do the same during the upcoming years here. So look out for me!

Baldwin Love,
