Hi!! My name is Amira Hijazi, I am beyond excited to be a part of the Baldwin Scholars community and can't wait to grow alongside this wonderful program.
I was raised in Greenville, North Carolina (about 1.5 hours away from Durham) but I share a proud Moroccan and Jordanian heritage where my parents are from! Being the oldest of two siblings, and the first in my family to attend college has taught me a lot about taking responsibility, relying on a strong community and adaptability.
At Duke, I plan to take an interdisciplinary approach to my education with a major in Evolutionary Anthropology & Global Health on the Pre-Dental track. I am passionate about exploring different scientific topics through research and was published for my assistance in Cardiovascular Pathophysiology Research at East Carolina University.
My passion for social media & social media management gave me the experience to intern at multiple local non-profits as a social media manager in high school. This has translated to some of the things I am a part of here at Duke such as being involved in marketing & first year intern committee in Duke University Union. On campus, I am also a tour guide, serve as the vice president of the Trinity residence hall House Council and have a work-study job at the Sanford School of Public Policy career services department.
Outside of academics some of my favorite things include watching cheesy rom-coms, curing my sweet-tooth with new recipes, visiting family in Morocco and Jordan during the summer & facetimes with my mom during the most random times of the day.
I am honored to be a part of such a welcoming and inspiring home on campus and hope to continue to build deeper connections with the wonderful women in this community.
