Jada Purkett

Hello! My name is Jada Purkett, and I am from the amazing city of Chicago, Illinois. Who I am as a person cannot fully be reflected in everything I have done in the past, but what I have learned in the present, and what I hope to do in the future.

Some random facts about me: I love English, I am a musical theatre enthusiast, an ex-singer, an ex-violinist, an ex-policy debater, an amateur composer, an aspiring knitter, and an aspiring ASL and BASL learner (and whatever new skills entice me)!

One of the most important lessons I have learned this year is that, just because you are good at doing something, doesn’t mean you have to like doing it (as illustrated by my some of my past activities). This realization has helped me to be more honest with myself in finding and confidently pursuing my passions. Right now, I am interested in psychology and obtaining a teaching license, but I am not afraid of veering off course and exploring other possibilities for my life.

No matter what path I end up choosing, my top priority is always to help people, whether directly or indirectly. Also, I would like to help break barriers that block people from utilizing their potential. This goal may be ambitious, absurd, or radical, but I want to contribute to making a future where giving everyone a fair chance to live in peace, is normal. For now, however, I am content with going wherever the random changes in my life take me and making small but significant impacts on myself and others.

To end with a (partial) quote from Andre De Shields “Slowly is the fastest way to get where you want to be. The top of one mountain is the bottom of the next, so keep climbing.”
