Claire Stout

Hi! My name is Claire, and I am so excited to be a Baldwin. I'm from a small town in New Jersey called Cranbury, where I have lived my entire life with my parents, my older sister Emily (a senior here at Duke), my younger sister Charlotte, and our beloved french bulldog, Magnum. Cranbury is twenty minutes away from my high school, the Lawrenceville School, which was my second home. Lawrenceville gave me so many incredible opportunities. I was able to be a ropes course instructor, a prefect, an athlete, a singer, and a camp counselor. At Lawrenceville, I was also a Heely Scholar, which allowed me to do research in our school's archives. That is when I fell in love with the archives. Reading a letter that is over 100 years old is so incredible, and I've transferred this passion to Duke by researching in the Rubenstein Library archives for multiple classes.

At Duke, I have expanded my horizons into trying so many new things. I was able to go on Project Wild for my pre-orientation, and I fell in love with backpacking and Pisgah. I'm a member of the women's club ultimate team, a first year intern for DUU, and an active member in Duke Student Broadcasting. I frequently attend sports competitions, both as a fan and as someone filming the game, and I have fallen in love with Duke athletics. I can't wait to camp out in K-ville!

As for my major, I have absolutley no idea what I plan on studying. My interests range from computer science to history, and there are so many other subjects that I have yet to explore. I'm a very curious person, and so I can't wait to take advantage of all the different courses that Duke has to offer.
