Hi! My name is Ryan, and I am a junior Public Policy major from Cohasset, Massachusetts. Over my last two years at Duke, I have tried to involve myself in as many meaningful activities and projects as I have time for. Currently, I am an active member of Duke Democrats and the Vice Chair of the Deomcratic Party in Durham County Precinct 5. I am also working with a fellow Baldwin, Kristen Stortz, to develop a mentoring program that would involve women across Duke's campus. One of the things that I value most about the Baldwin Scholars program is the sense of community, mutual respect, and constant support among those of us invovled in the program. I hope that in my time at Duke I can help to share this positive experience with other female students as well. My interest in the empowerment of women also extends to my academics. Specifically, I am fascinated by women's issues as they relate to strategies of international development. I will have the opportunity to explore these interests futher this summer through the program Duke Engage South Africa: Documenting Movements of Social Change. Overall, I can't wait to see what the next two years at Duke have in store! It certainly looks to be an adventurous summer, and I look forward to sharing my experiences with you!
