At Duke

Back in freshmen year, I decided to apply for Baldwin because I thought it would be an excellent chance to meet strong, independent women at Duke.. and I was not disappointed throughout my time in the program. Baldwin showed me the various types of people that attend Duke and how to be comfortable with myself as well as other people. I was lucky enough to meet one of my best friends through Baldwin, a friend that will be there for me the rest of my life. I loved the program and everyone I encountered as result of being part of it.

Now

I graduated four years ago (eek!) with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Civil Engineering degree with a Certificate in Architectural Engineering.

For a year I lived at home in Northern Virginia and with my older sister's family, working as a Project Engineer for American Infrastructure. I worked on a construction site at Fort Belvoir helping to build a new community hospital for the military. I then moved to the Estimating Department to help estimate job costs for bid proposals.

I switched companies in 2012 to Parsons Corporation in DC. I was involved as an engineer on WMATA projects as well as a CSX project. Parsons then moved me to San Francisco to work on the AC Transit BRT roadway project in Oakland, CA. I have lived in SF for the past year and half and I absolutely love it! In addition to the AC Transit project, I am also working on roadways associated with the California High Speed Train Project.

After my day job, I run a calligraphy business (brownfoxcalligraphy.com) as a creative outlet. Someday I would like to have my calligraphy business be my full time job. E-mail me if you have any questions about civil engineering or small businesses starting out on Etsy!
