Hi my name is Kalifa, and I am thrilled to be a new addition to the Baldwin family!
I grew up in Chicago suburbs, and come from a Trinidadian heritage. I am hoping to bring some of my Trinidadian colors to Baldwin: eccentric music, delightful food, and endless laughter.
I spent the past three years in Kampala, Uganda. Initially the sudden, drastic change in environment was a challenge. Yet, I quickly grew to love Uganda and appreciate the uniqueness of the people, and culture for what it is; from its beauties to its challenges. The experience, of moving halfway across the globe has broadened my perspective of the world, and allowed me to grow into the person I am today. It has made me a lot more open-minded, travelled, understanding, and grateful. It has also increased my fascination with foreign languages and culture, possibly leading to my interest in global health. As for now, I am one of the many ambitious students following a pre-med track and I am looking into a neuroscience or psychology major with a possible dance minor. In the meanwhile, I will be spending my time running, dancing, biking, volunteering, reading, and discovering what priceless opportunities these next few years have in store for me. Although I have only been a scholar for a short time, I can already feel the effect that the program will have on enhancing my university experience, and years beyond.
This is only the beginning of a beautiful journey.
