“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
Hello! My name is Cherranda Elizabeth Ann Smith and I am so grateful to be a Baldwin Scholar. Duke has opened great opportunities including the Baldwin Scholars Program, and I am ecstatic to see how my fellow Baldwins and I grow as females and Duke students.
With God, I have made great strides and with Him I will reach unprecedented heights. The sky is a metaphorical representation of my fullest potential. The story of how I came to this revelation can be condensed into a few highlights of my life. I am originally from Stamford, Connecticut and moved to Georgia when I was 6 years old. Growing up in the South, I became a Southern city girl with a slight Southern twang and nag for sweet tea, but I also realized the importance of being hospitable, unveiling a community and outreach passion inside of me. A week before move-in day, I became a licensed minister in the Baptist Church. This, accompanied with my passion for people and service to my Lord solidified my purpose on this Earth and shaped me into a young woman who understands her uniqueness and all of the possibilities life has to offer.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
