Duke University | Baldwin Scholars Program

I have lived in Johnson City, TN all of my life (except for my recent move to Durham). I have a two sisters, one older and one younger, and a younger brother. I absolutely adore my family and didn't realize how obsessed with them I am until I had to leave for college. My parents are both from Haiti and thus speak both French and Creole. They have always supported me in all of my endeavors and have taught me a great deal with regard to hard work and honesty. I am on the Pre-Med track (following in my father's footsteps) and am currently planning on majoring in French and European Studies. I love running, reading, cooking, collecting records, and shopping among many other things.

I've always considered myself a pretty spirited individual. I was always the student who constantly asked why (regarding academics as well as "the rules" at school). I'm not sure whether to say that consequently I am a good fit for Baldwin Scholars or it is a good fit for me. All that I know is that every so often (actually quite often) I think to myself 1) becoming a Baldwin Scholar was one of the best things that has ever happened to me, and 2) I am so incredibly happy that I came to Duke. It's an amazing feeling to finally come to the realization that you truly love your school and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. That's not to say that Duke doesn't come with its stresses, but as students we get through it. That's where the Baldwin Scholars come in... You see, the Baldwin Scholars program definitely stresses working hard to achieve your goals, staying motivated, and one day changing the world in your own way. At the same time, however, the program (founders, scholars, and mentors) is also there as a support group. I can't even begin to describe all of the discussions that I've had with these amazing women after a long, hard day that have left me feeling so incredibly motivated and so much more powerful. The only thing that I can say is that I'm so thankful to have the opportunity to interact with such marvelous women and to learn so much from every single one of them. In essence, Baldwin Scholars are fabulous!
