Hey, my name is Valentine. Contrary to popular belief, I was not born on Valentine's Day, just remarkably close to it. My mom had this dream of having my middle name be Bunny. Thankfully my dad vetoed that one, so my middle name is actually Rae. But to my mother's immense fancy, the Baldwins fondly call me Bunny.
Some things about me so I don't seem like a total stranger: I am from Smithtown, New York. Duke Blue is my favorite color. I am a black belt and certified instructor in American Jiu-Jitsu. Coffee is my drink of choice. I am the #1 Duke Footbal and NY Jets fan. I am an exceptionally family oriented person. I think that anyone can change the world.
A little bit about my Duke experience: I keep myself pretty busy with co-curriculars, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Duke has so many incredible opportunities that it is hard to pick just a few! My first semester at Duke I enrolled in an EMT course, and I am now a North Carolina certified EMT-B and a Crew Chief for Duke EMS. I am part of the Dukes & Duchesses organization as well as the CAPE Program. I currently have a fellowhip with Teach for America and am working on a project to end educational inequity by empowering students to take personal control of their education. To top it off, I am the Co-Chair for the First-Year Advisory Counselors Program.
I'm a bit all over the map as far as my activities go, but the common thread is that I love helping people. And thats what the Baldwin Program and Duke has really allowed me to do: help others.
As you may have guessed, I am a premed student here at Duke and I am a Evolutionary Anthropology major with a minor in Biology.
Feel free to email me at vre2@duke.edu with any Baldwin or Duke questions!
