Duke University | Baldwin Scholars Program

Leilani Doktor

Leilani Doktor

Aloha! My name is Leilani Doktor and I am from the paradise known as Honolulu, Hawaii. I am a proud member of the Baldwin class of 2014.

My decision to apply to Duke was a random, if not fated one. I did not know anything about Duke except their crazy basketball tradition, but I still decided to throw myself into the shuffle. Four moths later it turned out to be one of the best decisions I've ever made. I love Duke, and was fortunate enough to find the Baldwin Scholars program, which has only made my Duke experience better. Now that I am a rising sophmore I hope to further capitalize on my Duke experience by exploring International Comparitive Studies as my major with a minor in French (but everything is still up in the air).

Outside of academics I am the president of Wilson (the best dorm on East Campus) House Council. The Co-President of the brand new Duke Hawaii Club, a Womens Rower, and a new member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. I love to volunteer at the Durham Veterans Medical Center, but I am always up for random acts of kindness.

I am what you would consider the most typical Hawaiian girl. I love the sand, sun, ocean, and everything else about Hawaii. I love to outrigger canoe paddle, hula, make leis, surf, kayak, stand up paddleboard, wind surf, sail, play waterpolo, swim, and just lay out on the sand. I also enjoy playing frisbee in the dark (light up frisbee of course), Duke Athletics, reading the New York Times, Jon Stewart, and cooking recipes I see on Food Network.

Being a Baldwin Scholar has turned out to one of my most fulfilling experiences at Duke, if you have any questions or just want to chat please email me at led14@duke.edu
