Even though you are on the right track - you will get run over if you just sit there.

I’m Lauren, and it would be almost impossible to introduce myself without sharing that I'm Managing Editor of The Chronicle. I spend about 60 hours a week managing, editing, writing and enjoying what has been the defining experience of my time at Duke. I chiefly write about Duke's new campus in China, Duke Kunshan University. I would encourage anyone who is interested in learning more about Duke, writing, photography, critical thinking, time management or working on a team, to join The Chronicle. I've learned more working for The Chronicle than I have in any class here.

Contrary to popular belief that I never leave The Chronicle's office, I am also a student. I'm a political science major, with a particular interest in the executive branch and political communication. Maybe I'll look into law school or grad school a few years down the line, but for now my dream is to be an investigative journalist covering the White House. Outside of The Chronicle, I've written for The News & Observer in Raleigh. I also traveled to Israel with a group of about 15 college journalists from across the US to learn about media coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This summer, I will report for The Tampa Bay Times.

I was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. I really do love Durham and North Carolina, but I never realized how much I would miss living in a big city and wearing flip flops yearround.  At home, I went to a tiny – but incredible – performing arts school for seven years and loved every minute of it. I also worked at a local coffee shop (best coffee and cupcakes in Phoenix, hands down!), and I often use “I can make latte art” as my fun fact in get-to-know-you games. However, I left my clarinet and espresso talents at home in search of new discoveries, passions, and adventures.

I am, of course, also a Baldwin Scholar, and this program has redefined my perceptions of Duke. This is an amazing group of women, and I am positive that we are all going to change the world starting with Duke. I am so glad to be involved in this program, and I know its benefits will stay with me for the rest of my life.

Feel free to email me with any questions about Baldwin, The Chronicle, Duke, or absolutely anything!
